What is bio-identical hormone therapy?

Bio-identical hormones are manufactured to have the same molecular structure as the hormones made by your own body. By contrast, the over-the-counter or synthetic hormones, are intentionally different. Drug companies can’t patent a bio-identical structure, so they invent synthetic hormones that can be patented. Hormone therapy is a treatment that is used to supplement the body with various bio-identical hormones like DHEA, testosterone, various estrogens and progesterone. It aids in reducing various symptoms before, during or after menopause.

What occurs during menopause?

Ovaries stop producing estrogen, progesterone and androgens. This can occur as a result of the removal of ovaries or other reproductive organs through surgery. Common symptoms are hot flashes, night sweats and vaginal dryness. These are just a few of the many symptoms you may experience. If you are around menopausal age and you "just don't feel right", discuss it with your doctor or compounding pharmacist.

How can I know if hormone therapy is right for me?

There are many factors to consider when deciding whether to take hormone therapy, including your current health status and medical history. Discuss your risk factors and medical history with your doctor or attend one of our free informational seminars. Click here to view our seminar schedule.

Once I get a prescription for hormones, how long does it take to make it?

The natural hormones we make are tailor-dosed specifically for the individual patient. Because we compound a lot of prescriptions, please allow 2 business days for all compounded medications. If you wish to have your compounded medication mailed to your home, please give us at least 4 business days.

Is hormone therapy covered under insurance?

Depending on the type of insurance you have, some prescriptions will be covered by your insurance carrier. You may contact any Stark Pharmacy for further information.

How do I get started?

If your doctor is familiar with Bio-identical hormones, we will simply ask you to talk with him or her about starting your therapy. The first time a patient gets Bio-identical Hormone Therapy, they will need to take a blood or saliva test to determine their current hormone levels. Next, the patient can schedule a free private consultation by one of our pharmacists. Your initial consultation will cover everything from your medical history to your expectations of Bio-Identical Hormone Therapy. Later a follow-up consultation will take place, in which one of our pharmacists will discuss results with your physician and will prescribe a Bio-identical treatment plan customized for you. If your doctor is unfamiliar with HRT, our specialists will do the initial evaluations and discuss the therapy with your doctor.
